Winter sports don't only appeal to the wealthy. Everyone loves skiing. It's both relaxing and enjoyable. It's a great way to spend time with family and friends. You might even catch a glimpse of a celebrity if you're lucky.

People travel to many winter destinations. Popular destinations include Aspen (Colorado); Vail (Colorado); Park City (Utah); Lake Tahoe, California. What is the best area to ski?

Iceland is home to many winter wonderlands. It is situated in Northern Europe so it receives more sunlight throughout the day than most. However, the best thing about Iceland is the fact that it allows visitors to experience nature at it's finest. Iceland is the perfect place for adventure seekers, with its glaciers, volcanoes and waterfalls.

However, if you still haven't decided whether you want to spend your next holiday in Iceland or not, here are some reasons why this destination may become your new favourite:

  1. The scenery. National Geographic called Iceland "a land full of fire and ice." Many active volcanoes can be found on this tiny island, including Mount Hekla. This is the largest recorded eruption. Iceland is famous for its beautiful landscapes. No matter how you travel the country, you will definitely feel like you're in another place.
  2. Icelanders are known for being friendly, welcoming people. Because of this, tourists from all around the world are welcome to visit Iceland. Visitors are often welcomed with an Icelandic greeting called Hvalur Hjarta, which means Warm heart. The locals love to show their guests around their beautiful country as well as sharing stories about the history of their homeland.
  3. The wildlife: You may think Iceland is desert. Iceland has lush green forests, even though it doesn't get as much rain as other European regions. There are many species of birds, fish, and other animals that call Iceland home. The first settlers brought plants from North America to Iceland.
  4. Culture - Iceland's history dates back thousands of year, and its people are proud of this unique culture. There are no casinos or shopping malls in Iceland; tourism plays a big role in the economy. There are no high-end hotels or casinos in Iceland. In fact, many Icelanders report spending less on their travels than they did in Las Vegas.
  5. The Cuisine – What list of reasons to travel Iceland would be complete without mention of the local cuisine. Icelanders are famous for their rich, hearty meals that include seafood, lamb, reindeer meat, as well as vegetables. While visiting Iceland, tourists don't have to only eat Icelandic foods. Restaurants in other countries offer Icelandic recipes and ingredients. French restaurants have chicken soup made with puffin egg yolks, while Italian restaurants make salmon-topped pasta.
  6. The nightlife - You thought Iceland was just a quiet vacation spot... you couldn't have been further from the truth. You should consider staying awake until the late hours when visiting Iceland. There are many bars and clubs to keep foreigners busy throughout the week.
  7. The weather – Although Iceland is subject to extreme temperature fluctuations, it has a mild and stable climate. Iceland is an affordable destination that won't cost you a fortune. For proof, you can look no further than Reykjavik Grapevine Festival. It is one of Europe's largest music festivals. Over 100,000 people attended this festival last year.
  8. Safety - Although Iceland is safe, there are certain precautions you should follow to stay out of harm's way. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry, especially diamonds. Keep your valuables safe and secure in public places. If you do decide to hike through the countryside make sure that someone knows where you are.
  9. Education – If you're a Icelandic speaker, you can share your knowledge with others to better understand Icelandic. Participating in Icelandic politics will allow you to learn more about the culture.
  10. Because of its liberal policies, Freedom - Iceland is becoming more popular with travelers. Police officers cannot ask too many questions, so the government had to pass legislation. They don't want to go after people who break laws, but tourists who inadvertently do so.
  11. The environment – Iceland is an island so it has remained relatively undeveloped. This gives the country natural beauty of a different kind. Compared to European countries, Iceland is barely touched by modern civilization. The entire island could be walked across in less than two days.
  12. Healthcare - Iceland offers excellent healthcare and is generally affordable.

What to do in Finland during Winter?

The Finns love winter sports. You can do everything from skiing to ice skate, and there are many options. Here are five spots you should check out if Finland is on your winter travel plans.

  1. Helsinki - This city is located near the sea and is known for its beautiful architecture. Helsinki is home to many art galleries and museums, making it a wonderful place to visit.
  2. Lapland, Finland - Lapland refers to the region at the northernmost point of Finland. This region offers activities like snowmobiling and dog sledding.
  3. Kemi- Kemi (Northern Finland) is a municipality. It is famous for its sauna culture.

Where is winter always?

It is winter everywhere in the southern half of the hemisphere. The tilt of the Earth on its axis causes the southern hemisphere to be tilted away towards the sun in winter. This makes it cooler and allows less sunlight to reach the ground. It is summer in the northern hemisphere. The Earth's tilt means that the northern part of the hemisphere faces the sun during the summer months because it is tilted to its axis. This makes it hotter and allows more sunlight to reach the ground.
