Not only because it's located in Northern Europe, which means it receives more sunlight during the day than most places, but also because it offers visitors the opportunity to experience nature at its finest. Iceland is the perfect place for adventure seekers, with its glaciers, volcanoes and waterfalls.

If you are still unsure whether Iceland is the right destination for you, these are some reasons Iceland could be your new favorite.

  1. The scenery - National Geographic describes Iceland as "a country of ice and fire." This small island nation is home to numerous active volcanoes, including Mount Hekla, one of the largest eruptions ever recorded. Iceland is well-known for its spectacular landscapes. You will feel as though you are in another world, whether you visit the country by foot or on a helicopter flight over the lava fields.
  2. Icelanders are friendly and welcoming. As such, they welcome tourists from all over the world with open arms. Visitors are often welcomed with a traditional Icelandic greeting called Hvalur Hjarta (Warm heart). Locals enjoy showing guests around their country and telling stories about their heritage.
  3. The wildlife – You might mistakenly think Iceland is a desert. Iceland receives less rainfall than other European countries, but it is still covered in lush green forests. Its mountains are home to various birds, animals, fish, and insects. The first settlers brought plants from North America to Iceland.
  4. The culture – Iceland's rich history dates back thousands and locals are proud about their unique culture. Iceland has no shopping centers or casinos. Tourism plays an important role in Iceland's economy. You won't need to spend a lot of money here, and many travelers report spending less while in Iceland than when they visited Las Vegas.
  5. The Cuisine - What would a list of reasons to travel to Iceland be without talking about the local cuisine? Icelanders are famous for their rich, hearty meals that include seafood, lamb, reindeer meat, as well as vegetables. Visitors don't have to eat Icelandic food when they visit the country. 8. Safety - Although Iceland is safe, there are certain precautions you should follow to stay out of harm's way. Wear expensive jewelry, especially diamonds, sparingly. You should also ensure that your valuables are not left unattended in public areas. If you plan to hike in the countryside, make sure someone is aware of where you are.
  9. Education - If you study Icelandic, you can use your knowledge to help others understand the language. Participating in Icelandic politics will allow you to learn more about the culture.
  10. Freedom - Iceland has become increasingly popular among travelers because of its liberal policies. Police officers cannot ask too many questions, so the government had to pass legislation. They're not after anyone who breaks laws but after tourists who may inadvertently violate some rules.
  11. The environment – Iceland is an island so it has remained relatively undeveloped. The country's natural beauty is unique. Iceland is far less developed than European countries. The entire island could be walked across in less than two days.

The Best Places in America to Ice Skate During Winter

Lake Placid, New York and Saratoga Springs are the best places in America to ice skate. Some of these locations can be considered world-class resorts; others are great spots to ice ski without having to pay anything.

New York's Olympic Center can be found in Lake Placid. Here figure skaters compete each four years at The Winter Olympics. It's one of the country's most popular destinations for ice skating. In addition to enjoying nature, you'll also be able to experience the culture. You will find many museums throughout the area that have art, history, or science exhibits.
