Which is the best spot to enjoy snowy vacations?

Iceland is the best place to find winter wonderlands. Not only because it's located in Northern Europe, which means it receives more sunlight during the day than most places, but also because it offers visitors the opportunity to experience nature at its finest. Iceland offers adventure seekers everything they need, from glaciers to volcanoes to waterfalls to geysers.

However, if you still haven't decided whether you want to spend your next holiday in Iceland or not, here are some reasons why this destination may become your new favourite:

  1. The scenery – National Geographic calls Iceland "a land of fire and Ice." This tiny island nation is home of many active volcanoes including Mount Hekla, which is one the largest ever recorded. Iceland is famous for its beautiful landscapes. It doesn't matter if you choose to explore Iceland on foot, or take a helicopter ride above the lava fields. You'll feel like you are living in another dimension.
  2. The people - Icelanders are known for being friendly and hospitable. Because of this, tourists from all around the world are welcome to visit Iceland. Visitors are often greeted with the traditional Icelandic greeting Hvalur Hjarta ("Warm heart") Locals are fond of showing visitors around their beautiful country, and sharing stories about their history.
  3. The wildlife: You may think Iceland is desert. Iceland has lush green forests, even though it doesn't get as much rain as other European regions. Many birds, animals and fish live in the mountains. Many plants that were originally found in Iceland were first brought by the early settlers from North America.
  4. The culture - The history of Iceland dates back thousands of years, and the locals are proud of their unique culture. Iceland doesn't have any shops or casinos. Tourism plays a significant role in Icelandic economy. You won't need to spend a lot of money here, and many travelers report spending less while in Iceland than when they visited Las Vegas.
  5. The Cuisine - What would a list of reasons to travel to Iceland be without talking about the local cuisine? Icelanders are famous for their rich, hearty meals that include seafood, lamb, reindeer meat, as well as vegetables. But visitors don't have the obligation to eat Icelandic cuisine while they are in Iceland. Restaurants worldwide offer Icelandic cuisine. French restaurants have chicken soup made with puffin egg yolks, while Italian restaurants make salmon-topped pasta.
  6. The nightlife - Though you may have thought Iceland was quiet, it is a great place to visit. Icelanders should be prepared to stay up until the wee hours of the morning when they visit. Foreigners can enjoy bars and clubs throughout the week as well as on weekends.
  7. The weather is - While Iceland occasionally experiences extreme temperatures, the general climate is moderate and stable. Iceland is a great place to visit, and it won't break the bank. If you want proof, look no further than the Reykjavik Grapevine Festival, one of the biggest music festivals in the Northern Hemisphere. Last year, more than 100,000 people attended this event.
  8. Safety - Although Iceland is safe, there are certain precautions you should follow to stay out of harm's way. Wear expensive jewelry, especially diamonds, sparingly. Also, don't leave your valuables unattended in any public place. If you do decide to hike through the countryside make sure that someone knows where you are.
  9. Education - Icelandic language students can use their knowledge to help others. You can also get involved in Icelandic politics, which will help to you learn more about Icelandic culture.
  10. Because of its liberal policies Freedom - Iceland has been increasingly popular with tourists. The government was required to create legislation banning police officers from asking excessive questions. They aren’t looking for anyone who breaks laws; they’re after tourists who might inadvertently be breaking some rules.
  11. The environment – Iceland's isolated island has kept it relatively untouched by humankind. This has given Iceland a natural beauty that is quite unique. Compared to European countries, Iceland is barely touched by modern civilization. You could easily walk across the whole land in two days.
  12. Iceland's excellent health care system offers affordable medical services and excellent healthcare.
