Three distinct areas in the United States are where there is more snowfall in winter. Each region has its own experience for snowboarders and skiers.

The Midwest is home to some of the country's largest ski resorts, including Mt. Brighton (Michigan), Crystal Mountain Resort(Minnesota) and Breckenridge Snow Resort (Colorado).

Many smaller towns and villages can be found in the Northeast like Stowe (Vermont), Killington(VT), and others.

Finally, in the Pacific Northwest you will find WhistlerBlackcomb (British Columbia), and Sun Valley (Idaho).

What is the best area to ski?

If there's any place where you can find an abundance of a winter wonderlands, it is Iceland. Because it is in Northern Europe, Iceland receives more sun during the day than many other places. This allows it to offer visitors the opportunity of experiencing nature at its best. Iceland offers adventure seekers everything they need, from glaciers to volcanoes to waterfalls to geysers.

But if you're still not sure if Iceland is right for you, here are some reasons Iceland may be your favorite vacation destination.

  1. The scenery - National Geographic has described Iceland as "a land of ice and fire." It's true. The small island nation of Iceland is home to many active volcanoes. One such eruption is Mount Hekla. Iceland is not only known for its volcanoes but also for its stunning landscapes. It doesn't matter if you choose to explore Iceland on foot, or take a helicopter ride above the lava fields. You'll feel like you are living in another dimension.
  2. Icelanders are known for being friendly, welcoming people. As such, they welcome tourists from all over the world with open arms. Visitors are welcomed with a traditional Icelandic greeting called Hvalur Hjarta. Locals enjoy showing guests around their country and telling stories about their heritage.
  3. The wildlife - You might think Iceland is a desert, but you'd be wrong. Although it doesn't receive nearly as much rainfall as other parts of Europe, Iceland is covered in lush green forests. The mountains of Iceland are home to many birds, animals, fish, as well as insects. Early settlers initially brought many plants found in Iceland from North America.
  4. The culture – Iceland's rich history dates back thousands and locals are proud about their unique culture. Iceland doesn't have any shopping malls or casinos. Tourism is the mainstay of the economy. There are no high-end hotels or casinos in Iceland. In fact, many Icelanders report spending less on their travels than they did in Las Vegas.
  5. The Cuisine. What list would be complete without mentioning Iceland's delicious cuisine? Icelanders are well-known because of their rich and hearty cuisine that includes seafood, lamb meat, reindeer meat, and vegetables. While visiting Iceland, tourists don't have to only eat Icelandic foods. Restaurants abroad serve up dishes made with Icelandic ingredients and recipes. French restaurants may offer chicken soup made from puffin eggs; Italian restaurants might serve salmon-topped pasta.
  6. The nightlife - You thought Iceland was just a quiet vacation spot... you couldn't have been further from the truth. Iceland is best explored by staying up late. The bars and clubs offer entertainment for foreigners throughout the week, and even into the weekend.
  7. The weather - Iceland can sometimes experience extreme temperatures but the climate overall is stable and mild. Iceland is affordable and you won't have to spend a lot of money. The Reykjavik Grapevine Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Northern Hemisphere. Last year, more than 100,000 people attended this event.
  8. Safety - Iceland is considered safe. However, you need to take certain precautions to ensure your safety. Don't wear expensive jewelry, especially diamonds. Don't leave valuables in public places. Finally, ensure someone knows where to find you if hiking through the countryside.
  9. Education - Icelandic language students can use their knowledge to help others. It is possible to get involved in Icelandic politics. This will help you understand the culture.
  10. Because of its liberal policies Freedom - Iceland has been increasingly popular with tourists. The government was required to create legislation banning police officers from asking excessive questions. They aren't after anyone who violates laws but tourists who may inadvertently break some rules.
  11. The environment: Iceland is an isolated island which has been left relatively untouched. The country has a unique natural beauty. Iceland has a very low level of modern civilization compared to other European countries. The entire island could be walked across in less than two days.
  12. Iceland's excellent health care system offers affordable medical services and excellent healthcare.
